Over
three decades I have returned to New Orleans to capture
its architectural essence. That architecture, filled with
creole cottages, and shotgun houses is the foundation
of my paintings, not only for its unique beauty, but for
its history. Within each structure are the characteristics
and the soul of many cultures and traditions. It’s
those cultures, traditions and neighborhood dwellings
that is a root of my paintings. The exciting interplay
between colors, patters of lines in the wires, weather
boards, multiple triangular rooftops and columns that
might look the same, but have many subtle differences.
With all these elements, there is always a story to tell
about the music, food, weather, dance, cultures, the traditions
and its many people. It’s that challenge that keeps
me searching for the essence and soul of my home town.
